PRESS RELEASE - May 2008:
Curious Pictures' Shosholoza Documentary Series Honoured

Curious Pictures sports documentary series Shosholoza was honored with a Merit Award for Best Television Program at the 28th SAB Sports Journalists of the Year Awards held on Thursday May 8th, 2008.

The SAB Sports Journalists of the Year Awards is one of the most prestigious national awards for journalists covering developments in the world of sport. Recognising excellence in print and website writing and in television and radio broadcasting. The winners are chosen for their knowledge of the sports they cover and their professional skills in bringing sports news to the public.

Curious Pictures producers Peter Prukl and Devon Brough were acknowledged with an award for their work on the Shosholoza Sports Documentary Series which followed the history-making story of Team Shosholoza at the 2007 America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain.

Team Shosholoza was Africa’s first ever representative at the America’s Cup - a prestigious international sailing event, and the oldest sports trophy in the world. The Curious Pictures production team filmed on location in Cape Town and Valencia for seven months in order to produce six half hour episodes of the Team Shosholoza series.

The documentary series brought audiences on board the racing yacht with the Shosholoza crew, and gave behind-the-scenes access to the lengthy preparation and training, the painstaking design and last-minute repairs, and the sheer joy and thrill of competing to reach the finals in the America’s Cup.

The Shosholoza series was broadcast on CSN, SS1 and SS2 from January to June 2007. The series was also honored with the award for “Best Sports Programme” at the 2007 SAFTA Awards.
