Curious Pictures at MIPCOM

Curious Pictures mobile minisoap, Seduction 101, selected as a finalist in MIPCOM's cross platform media screenings.

Curious Pictures' mobile soap, Seduction 101, produced for Mnet's Go Channel, has been selected from hundreds of international entries to screen at the MIPCOM Conference in Cannes, France. MIPCOM Mobile and Internet screening finalists were selected based on their innovation and compelling commercial potential to present their work during three official screening sessions October 13-15, 2008.

Seduction 101, a 13-week mobi-soap was created by Director Donovan Marsh and writer Gillian Breslin. The storyline focuses on an unrequited love quadrangle set on campus. Ryan, the campus geek, is obsessed with Zoë, the campus princess. She in turn is in love with Monde, the campus player - who is trying to bed Lindi, the campus feminist. But Lindi is after Ryan.... Viewers receive one 3 minute segment, told from one of the characters' point of view, every day for three months. Production of the mobile minisoap centered on giving viewers the intimacy demanded in the mobile media arenas. Viewers were given one on one point-of-views with their favorite characters and the voyeuristic filming techniques give the production a gritty, urban reality.

Curious Interactive is a new division of Curious Pictures headed by Devon Brough. "Consumers who are actively connecting to mobile content are looking for an engaging and constantly evolving mobile Web experience that is useful, and complimentary to their lifestyle, demanding that content be relevant, instantly useful and identifiable", says Brough.

Although mobile content is still a developing media sector, Curious Pictures is convinced that there are many possibilities for content producers to use the platforms it offers. The Seduction101 minisoap is accessible as downloadable video podcasts and streaming video via the web and WAP portals. Internet users can access the first 13 episodes online at http://www.seduction101.co.za and WAP enabled mobile phones can directly download the three minute individual video episodes via m.seduction101.co.za. M-Net additionally distributes the Seduction 101 minisoap on the MobiGO social network. Another first for the innovative Seduction101 cross platform initiative is it is the first mobile series to be distributed via MXiT, which boasts a user database of over 8 million.
