“It’s the money honey". The LAB returns Sunday starting May 11th 2008 at 20:00 on SABC 3.
The stand out first season of The LAB drama series was brought to South African audiences in 2006. Set in the heart of the high-stakes world of business in South Africa, it exposes the dramatic tensions in the underbelly of the corporate world. The team at the LAB are poised to take over a R60 Billion government tender but when the deal falls through the LAB has placed all it’s bets on the table and must scramble to keep it’s portfolio and it’s high profile. Ambition, greed and survival drive the LAB to risky decisions gambling on the future and their reputations.
The LAB's witty and strikingly researched writing as well as its exceptional visual and production quality has placed the LAB among the top rated television series by critics and audiences. Honored with twelve nominations at the South African Film and Television (SAFTA) Awards in 2007 and voted best top locally produced program by TVSA. The second season of The LAB has been written once again by Barry Berk and directed by Barry Berk, Catherine Stewart and John Trengrove. Most of the LAB’s original cast return including Nambitha Mpulwana as Pearl, Mothusi Magano as Mingus, Fana Mokoena as Jaws, Graham Hopkins as Monty and Terence Bridget as Monty’s lover Andre. They are joined by the fabulous Shannon Esra (Hard Copy & Snitch) as new legal counsel Samantha Mazur and the talented newcomer to television Shoki Mokgapa playing Pearl’s secretary, Thumi.
